Thanks John, So timely, especially about expecting ourselves to be 'the finished product'. We can be so self-condemnatory as Christians.Also others are on the same pathway,we need to 'cut them some slack' too! Paul talks of being imperfect himself, and we should forget the past and press on to the goal, in Christ.
Yes, we can so easily assume that because God is holy, we have to be living in a constant state of perfection - and if we're not then we are not acceptable. To break away from that is to understand the heart of the good news - i.e. that we cannot attain to perfection in our own efforts so God adopted us into his family so we experience the same level of acceptance that Jesus does with his Father. Then we want to grow because we know we are loved - not because we cease to belong to him if we get something wrong.
