The arrival of the English spring has been a relief to us all after the almost continuous battering of gales with the consequences of heavy snowfalls for some, flooded rivers, electricity blackouts, structural damage and, sadly, loss of life. We also, with great dismay and empathy, feel for all those caught up in the war between Russia and the Ukraine. We have just entered that period of Lent which precedes the celebration of Easter. We live in troubled times, as did Jesus. Israel was occupied by the Romans during Jesus’ entire life. Yet for many throughout this world at this point in history, we will have the opportunity again to reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ during Lent.
