Merle's Reflections 2018

Merle's reflections 2018
Merle's reflections are taken from observations on the circumstances and events of life. It is good to reflect - not so we get tangled in our introspection but in order to pause and see things more from God's perspective.

A beautiful name

In her second Christmas reflection Merle writes about the importance of choosing a name for a new baby and the significance of the name of Jesus.

A light in the darkness

In the first of her Christmas reflections Merle considers the importance of following the 'light of the world' and the difficult consequences should we choose not to.

The alternative

As November draws to a close and Christmas approaches, Merle reflects upon an alternative approach to the pressures and stress of life.

Things don't stay the same forever

As we look out of our windows and see autumn colours, Merle reflects upon the changing seasons and the importance of believing in the future.

Looking beyond the obvious

Merle reflects upon several snapshots of summer in East Anglia and lessons that can be drawn from the drought and storms we experienced.

Beautiful but obnoxious

Merle reflects on lessons learnt from discovering and subsequently disposing of a poisonous new plant which appeared in her garden this spring.

Given a chance to recover

Merle reflects upon lessons learnt from a thirty-year-old rescued azalea plant about the importance of getting involved.

The option to grow

Merle gave herself a challenge a year ago, which she has now accomplished. She reflects on the importance of giving ourselves the opportunity to grow.

Easter reflections: How do you respond to a crisis?

Merle looks forward to the arrival of Spring and reflects upon how each of those involved in the Easter story responded to Jesus's crucifixion.

Easter reflections: Loving to the end

Merle considers who should have been washing who's feet at the Last Supper and asks what it means for us to 'love someone to the end'?

It all depends ...

The drought which is affecting Cape Town took Merle's thinking to the phrase 'It all depends ...' and she reflects upon the effect our responses can have on others.

An attitude of trust

To conclude her Christmas reflections Merle writes a few thoughts about the visit of the Magi to see the new King and reflects on the relevance their visit has for us as we anticipate a New Year.
