At our New Year’s Eve church meeting, we sang Brian Doerksen’s song, ‘Lead us Lord’.
Here we stand At a crossroads again Like You said In time the seasons change
Looking back We recall the blessing and the pain But now we turn our hearts toward What is still to come We want to dream again
Lead us Lord Into a life of fruitfulness Prepare our hearts to risk again As we trust Taking simple steps of obedience we know That You will lead us Lord
The line that caught my attention was, ‘Prepare our hearts to risk again’. We can all look back over 2018 with its successes and failures, joys and sadnesses and view 2019 with anxiety or excitement, high hopes or lack of confidence. This will depend on our response to 2018. To trust again, to plan with high expectations, to love again, might well feel like a step too far but if we stay where we are, where will we be at the end of 2019? As we go into this New Year our prayer can be that God will ‘prepare our hearts to risk again.’
